On Love, Education and Conformity

William, the Cat
It seems to me that we are a confused species in many ways.  We express our emotions in strange ways.  More often than not, this seems to be the result of being in too much of a hurry, and not letting things take their own proper course.  Also, that we are trying to take short cuts, not realizing that we are in fact going the wrong way!

As an example, in an attempt to protect our children from being hurt, we would like to shield them from all harm.  So much so that we prevent them from learning the skills necessary to deal with the complexities that they would have to face ultimately once they step into the society.  I feel that more often than not it is a confused reaction as opposed to a careful consideration of what is best for the child.

Angela, the Shihtzu
A number of years ago, I read somewhere that the more mistakes we make as a kid, and the more we fall and get up, the better we would become at dealing with the difficulties we face, getting up when we fall, and learning from our mistakes ...  So, it seems to me that it is best to help the kids see the fun in learning from their mistakes and cheerfully getting up to continue their journey rather then protecting them from falling at all cost.

The problem is that too many things in the society suggest we act in this way, and most of us are almost hypnotized and bound to follow the same pattern.  Take schools for example.  Rather than teaching our children how much fun it is to learn something and discover things for themselves, many schools are an exercise in futility and are busy teaching the kids how to follow instructions or be punished.  Conformity is the name of the game ... A true tragedy, in my pinion.  Here is an interesting clip from an inspiring movie (Dead Poets Society) ... Fast forward to minute 6:30.  Another example of this is discussed by the late philosopher and self-proclaimed spiritual entertainer Alan Watts is this clip.

That is a message I also read from Robert Kiyosaki's very interesting book entitled "If You Want to Be Rich and Happy, Don't Go to School".  You get the point!

Peace and Love
Let's end this note with two beautiful songs by Celine Dion (Because You Loved Me!) and Mariah Carey (Hero.)
